What We Believe

Doctrine, Theology & Affiliation

What do we believe about Jesus?

He is the Son of God and only through faith in Him does a person experience eternal salvation. He lived, died, was buried, resurrected, ascended into heaven, and His return is imminent. — John 14:6, Colossians 1:15-20, 1 John 2:23

What do we believe about humanity and eternity?

Humanity is inherently sinful and separated from God, meaning all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. A person will spend eternity in either heaven or hell. If a person confesses with his mouth that Jesus is Lord and believes in his heart God raised Him from the dead, he will be saved, meaning go to heaven. Those who never place their faith in Jesus are separated from God for eternity in a place called hell. — Romans 3:23, 6:23, 10:9-10

What do we believe about the Bible?

The Bible is inspired by God, inerrant (incapable of being wrong), and infallible (incapable of making mistakes, never failing). All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. — 2 Timothy 3:16-17

What do we believe about the church?

The church is clearly seen in the book of Acts and is comprised of people who have placed their faith in Jesus and been baptized. The manifold wisdom of God is made known through the church. The church is to be a group of people who, together, devote themselves to the apostles’ teaching (Scripture) and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. The church is not a building, but people who are to go and make disciples of all the nations. — Ephesians 3:10, Acts 2:41-42, Matthew 28:18-20

Is Ken Caryl denominationally affiliated?

Ken Caryl Church is a Southern Baptist Church (SBC) and has been so from its inception. This means we are a congregation that shares doctrinal and theological convictions with other SBC churches, but we are autonomous, meaning there is not a denominational board or agency determining what the church does or does not do. The distinctive characteristic for SBC churches is a willingness to cooperate in gospel endeavors. For example, SBC churches willingly give to support missions internationally through the International Mission Board and nationally through the North American Mission Board. We also give cooperatively to fund state Baptist entities, seminaries, and other national SBC organizations. The bottom line, though, is that each SBC church is independent. Jeff Gibson became the senior pastor of Ken Caryl Church in April of 2015. He has deep convictions about the Bible being the inspired Word of God, meaning it is authoritative and life-changing. The central message of Scripture that Jesus Christ died on the cross, rose from the grave, and is returning one day is something that needs to be shared with every person on the planet. Jeff desires to see Ken Caryl take the message of Jesus to people in Littleton and to people around the world.

The Gibsons love calling Colorado home and enjoy getting to know new people in the Denver area. Jeff and Kim enjoy raising their children, traveling, watching people grow in their faith, and being part of Ken Caryl Church.
